The fight against malaria starts with diagnostics
Malaria remains one of the most important public health concerns globally with more than 3 billion people in 85 countries at risk of infection, according to the 2023 WHO report.
Early and accurate diagnosis of malaria is vital in the fight against the disease, allowing for the initiation of specific treatment, which helps to prevent complications and reduce mortality.
By virtue of its violet semiconductor laser with a 405 nm beam which permits the detection of smaller particles, the Sysmex XN-31 automated haematology analyser, in addition to providing the standard full blood count parameters, can detect and count malaria-infected red blood cells (MI-RBC) utilising the principle of fluorescence flow cytometry.
