Sustainability at Sysmex Europe
At Sysmex, we aim to improve society’s health and quality of life and contribute to a healthier and better life – to a sustainable future worldwide. Besides providing better access to medical care and to improve diagnostics with powerful instruments, health and a prosperous future are depending on a healthy surrounding, the environment. Therefore, Sysmex cares about the environmental sustainability and aligns its activities and business with the global UN sustainable development goals (SDG). To take sustainability seriously has become increasingly important. That is why Sysmex Europe put three main aspects on its agenda to focus on: Environment, Society and Governance.
Chief Executive Officer message on Sustainability
The Sysmex Way, our corporate philosophy of the Sysmex Group, defines our mission of “Shaping the advancement of healthcare.” With Sysmex’s business focus on the field of in vitro diagnostics (IVD), Sysmex aims to resolve global healthcare issues by creating values to the society including extension of healthy lifespan, improving access to healthcare, and advancing medical care.
Our key action in the mid-term management plan – formulate a vision and roll out measures to reinforce and implement sustainability management in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region.
We strive towards the realisation of a sustainable society and engage in enhancing corporate values based on our misson as expressed in the "Sysmex Way" - "Shaping the advancement of healthcare" in the EMEA region.
We take sustainability management seriously, as it has become increasingly important in areas such as environment, society incl. diversity and inclusion (D&I), supply chain management, human rights, and governance. It is also crucial for building a sustainable structure while promoting efforts to address each issue in the long run and aligning vector of our management strategy with these social trends.
Underpinning these efforts is the “Sysmex Way.”
Our goal is to think and draw up strategy in the “Sysmex Way,” ultimately aligning our corporate culture with this philosophy. We strive towards the realisation of a sustainable society and engage in enhancing corporate values based on our mission as expressed in the “Sysmex Way” – “Shaping the advancement of healthcare” in the EMEA region.
EcoVadis Silver Medal for sustainability achievements
In 2024, Sysmex disclosed its environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance actions and processes and had them objectively assessed by EcoVadis, the world's leading provider of corporate sustainability assessments. As a result, Sysmex Europe SE was awarded a silver medal. With its broad commitment to sustainability, Sysmex Europe is among the top 15% of companies assessed worldwide.
Sysmex approved by the Science Based Targets initiative
Sysmex has been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)*, an international initiative working to overcome the environmental crisis on the basis of climate science, for the Group's FY2033 greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction target.
The approval in 2024 was granted by SBTi to Sysmex after the submission of the targets, defined in the ‘Sysmex Eco-Vision 2033’. Our reduction target of 55% for the emissions which we can directly influence (Scope 1 and 2) is classified in line with 1.5 °C trajectory. For emissions in our value chain (Scope 3), we are committed to reduce emissions from our products by 35% within the same time frame.
This SBTi certification is an opportunity for Sysmex to further reduce CO2 emissions by changing energy sourcing and promoting resource recycling. Sysmex's decarbonisation efforts will also be driven forward in the future.
