Sysmex Corporation (HQ: Kobe, Japan; Chairman and CEO: Hisashi Ietsugu) announces the launch of new sample transportation system modules that can be connected to the XR-Series Automated Hematology Analyzer (XR-Series), its flagship models in the hematology field.
The three modules, which are equipped with the functions of sample sorting, sample archiving, and automated transportation of quality control and cleaning materials, will contribute to greater automation and efficiency in clinical testing operations.
In recent years, the number of tests conducted by medical institutions has been increasing globally due to population increases and the provision of medical insurance systems. In advanced countries in particular, greater efficiency is required in clinical testing laboratories because of the need to curtail healthcare expenditures, largely because of the aging of their societies and declining birthrates.
In hematology (blood cell count tests), the number, type, and size of red and white blood cells as well as platelets are analyzed. In this field, in 1990, Sysmex developed and launched the world’s first fully automated sample transportation system, which extends to smear preparation. Since then, in addition to raising efficiency in the sample workflow, through multi-sample processing as well as automated blood image analysis, Sysmex has continued to develop its hematology product portfolio with the aim of providing higher value test results and creating a testing laboratory environment in which they can be fully utilized.
The new sample transportation modules that Sysmex has launched can be connected to the XR-Series. Based on Operational Value (improved efficiency of laboratory operations), one of the development concepts of the XR-Series, the modules were developed with the aim of being “Touch-Free” to minimize manual operations by laboratory staff. In combination with the XR-Series, the three modules, one of them equipped with the world’s first automated measurement function for quality control material,* it will be possible to cater to the work efficiency needs of an even greater number of customers.
In addition to the function of reading barcodes inherited from the conventional barcode terminal at the time of loading samples, the BT-50 barcode terminal module also automates operations traditionally performed by laboratory staff, including storage and transportation of quality control materials and cleaning materials, automatic device startup, and mixing of quality control materials and measurements of them. The new module, equipped with the world’s first automated measurement function of quality control material in a hematology field, will contribute greatly to reducing manual operations.
The TS-01 module, for sample sorting, maximizes the overall processing capacity of the transportation system by sorting samples for transportation according to the testing processes required.
The TA-01 module, for sample archiving, raises the efficiency of post-processes, such as sample management and retrieval, by archiving measured samples in various conditions.
In addition, using 40% less power and with a reduced width by 15% from previous products with similar functions, the modules will contribute to reducing environmental impact. They will first be launched in Japan, and then steadily rolled out in other countries.
As a front-runner in clinical testing, Sysmex will strive to provide new value by proactively utilizing advanced technologies as well as through continuous endeavors in research and development.
