Sysmex Europe GmbH and Sentinel Diagnostics will continue their partnership, which now also gives Sysmex Europe the distribution rights for Sentinel's newest FIT line assay: CALiaGold. CALiaGold is a quantitative latex immunoassay for Calprotectin measurement in faeces.
In 2013, Sysmex Europe expanded its activities in the field of oncology, namely on the faecal immunochemical testing (FIT) for colon rectal cancer (CRC) screening, by signing a distribution agreement (DA) with Sentinel Diagnostics for its FIT line: FOB Gold and SENTiFIT 270 Analyser.
To extend the FIT line, Sentinel Diagnostics recently launched the CALiaGold assay for SENTiFIT 270 Analyser. Sysmex Europe and Sentinel agreed to continue and expand their partnership, which now includes the new CALiaGold in combination with FOB Gold and SENTiFIT 270 Analyser.
We are excited to enter a new era of FIT business with our customers, which jointly gives us the opportunity to positively shape the advancement of healthcare by simply offering a combination of two FIT rule-out tests in the same platform for symptomatic FIT testing.
Faecal calprotectin and faecal occult blood (FOB) are part of the normal diagnostic path to evaluate a patient with gastrointestinal (GI) distress. FOB Gold and CALiaGold are two assays used for early diagnostic guidance, with the common aim to decrease unnecessary colonoscopies. Both faecal tests can highly contribute to health organisations’ efficiency and most importantly better quality of life for patients.
The official launch of CALiaGold happened on 1 November 2018. A comprehensive information booklet will be sent to all Sysmex Europe affiliates and distributors included in the DA. Sysmex Europe will properly communicate this launch on our website and on relevant social media platforms. The official launch event at a European exhibition is planned for the next EuromedLab (EML) congress which will be hosted in Barcelona 19-23 May 2019.

About measurement of calprotectin in faeces
Calprotectin is released in cases of gastrointestinal (GI) inflammation due to degranulation of neutrophil granulocytes in the bowel mucosa. Calprotectin accumulates in the faecal material and is excreted from the body, being extremely stable. It can be found unaltered in stool for longer than 6 days. The faecal calprotectin (fCAL) test offers a non-invasive option to assess for localised inflammation, highly sensitive for detection of intestinal inflammation, and therefore aid in the differential diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) versus irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). fCAL outperforms markers for general inflammation such as C-reactive protein (CRP) or erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) as it is both more sensitive and more specific.
About CALiaGold
CALiaGold is a particle-enhanced turbidimetric immunoassay (PETIA) for automatic quantification of faecal calprotectin in SENTiFIT 270 Analyser. The turbidimetric assay is based on the agglutination reaction between latex particles coated with antibody and the antigen in solution. CALiaGold brings benefits both to patients and laboratory professionals in regard to sample collection and manipulation of sample for calprotectin extraction, respectively.
